Welcome to Rev. Akiko Miyake-Stoner!
New Associate Minister Assigned to UJCC
After being interviewed by Rev. Craig and the Staff Parish Relations Committee, receiving the blessing of both the UMC and UCC, and being approved by the Administrative Council, UJCC is happy to announce that Rev. Akiko Miyake-Stoner is our new associate pastor. She will serve as the pastor of Congregational Care and Youth and Children’s Ministries. Along with Rev. Craig she will serve on the newly formed Youth and Children’s Ministry Council.
Rev. Akiko most recently served at Lake Merritt UMC as an intern where she preaches, participates in worship, and teaches Bible studies. She has also served at Berkeley Methodist United Church under Rev. Naomi Southard and at ElderHealth NW Adult Day Health Center as a case manager. She grew up in historically Japanese churches and is eager to serve in one. She currently serves as a board member of the National Japanese-American United Methodist Clergy Caucus.
She comes to us through the United Methodist Church, but is eager to learn about the traditions of the United Church of Christ and about the unique blend of traditions that make UJCC unique and special. Having discussed it at length with Rev. Dr. Marty Williams, the Associate Conference Minister for the UCC, she wholeheartedly gave her blessing for Rev. Akiko’s appointment to our church and recognized at this time, she presented an opportunity for our church that we could not afford to pass up.
